Pakistan's Dr. Tasnim Ahsan wins American Laureate for Endocrinology
Dr. Tasnim Ahsan of Jinnah Hospital has been awarded the Endocrine Society of America Laureate Award for 2023. Dr. Amrita Tasnim Ahsan is the first Pakistani to receive this award, which recognizes the achievements of endocrine researchers and clinicians worldwide.
The award was given to only 12 medical researchers and physicians this year, one of which is Professor Dr. Tasnim Ahsan. She is the first Pakistani to receive the "International Excellence in Endocrinology" award. The award is presented annually to an endocrinologist who has made exceptional contributions to hormone health research, education, clinical practice or administration in under-resourced geographical areas.
In Pakistan, Dr. Amrita Tasnim has played an essential role in establishing and developing the field of endocrinology to international standards. She trained more than 100 trainee doctors in the fields of Internal Medicine and Endocrinology at Pakistan's first government hospital, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center, in 1993.
In addition to treating a large percentage of the transgender community in Pakistan, she is committed to extending access to care. The Pakistan Endocrine Society was also founded by her.
