Muslim Student in India Takes Her Own Life

A Muslim student in India committed suicide by jumping from the roof of a medical college after she was harassed by her Hindu classmates.

The Indian media reported that Vania Sheikh, a 20-year-old BDS student in Meerut Medical College, attempted suicide yesterday by jumping from the college's roof. She passed away during treatment.

Siddharth Panwar, a classmate of the student, was detained after allegedly insulting and slapping her in front of everyone. The police have also found threatening messages on the student's mobile phone from Siddharth. In a viral video on social media, it can be seen that a student jumps from the roof of a medical college library, taking her own life.

While the Modi government has ruled India, minorities, especially Muslims, have faced hardships. The wearing of hijab in educational institutions has also been banned in other states after Karnataka.
