In 1998, the Punjab Municipal Development Fund Company (PMDFC) was founded. It was founded to address the province of Punjab's need for communal development. It is a self-governing body, with internal rules and regulations based on the Internal Rules of 1984. The Department of Local Authorities and Development relies on the Punjab Municipal Development Fund Company for technical assistance (LG & CD). The functions of the Punjab Municipal Development Fund Company include assisting local governments in developing ability for improved financial management and service delivery, as well as giving appropriate funding to local governments for building, repair, and modernization of infrastructure and operation or provide consultants for the assessment, monitoring and advice on their institutional reforms, monitoring, evaluating and ensuring the appropriate, efficient and transparent use of funds, providing an effective administrative and information system for monitoring and '' regular and appropriate evaluation of financial and technical assistance to local governments from the Fund and for the support, initiation, conduct and promotion of research activities. Currently, Punjab Municipal Development Fund Company is involved in the implementation of mega-projects such as: capacity building for sustainability of municipal infrastructure services, updating of municipal asset management information system, unit Program Management Unit (PMU) and LG's automated financial management and tracking system.
