Job offers issued to 50,000 teachers in Pakistan
KARACHI: For the first time in the country's history, job orders have been issued to 50,000 teachers who successfully passed the recruitment process. In the test conducted by IBA Sukkur from 500,000 candidates, about 47,000 candidates had passed on merit.
Candidates were offered job offers at a function held at Government School, Lyari, 489, South Karachi. Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah, Information Minister Saeed Ghani, Law Advisor Murtaza Wahab and PPP MPA Shazia were present at the ceremony. Karim, People's Youth President Javed Nayab Leghari and other concerned officers also attended.
Education Secretary Ghulam Akbar Leghari said that there is no precedent for recruitment of 50,000 teachers in a single phase in Pakistan. Sindh Education Minister Sardar Shah said that it was a huge task to recruit 50,000 employees. The candidates were awarded the employment offers purely on the basis of merit. The number of out-of-school children is a very controversial topic however; many sectors have exaggerated these figures as per their intention.
The recruitment policy was accepted after much debate and discussion when Saeed Ghani proposed it in the cabinet. It was also a difficult recruitment test. 45 marks were allotted for the test. Greater benefit hat came out of this was we got to know who teach which subject better. The country doesn't have many science subject teachers. The main drawback was that we are expecting a lot from a teacher in the case where they have to teach all the subjects and also their teaching should produce greater results.
We will give licenses to teachers so that competent teachers can join and make a difference. We are showing our commitment that underprivileged children can also be a part of this system on the basis of merit, he added. There are plenty of primary schools, we will abolish the system of junior and senior elementary teachers and create a new scheme. On this occasion, Sindh Information Minister Saeed Ghani and Administrator Karachi Murtaza Wahab also told the teachers that they were selected on the basis of merit and it is expected from them that they will help to improve the future of the nation's children.
