HEC to provide relief to M.Phil. / MS students
The Higher Education Commission made a big announcement about the M.Phil / MS scholars of Pakistan. The officials declared that the candidates participating in the M.Phil / MS/ Equivalent degree program would get significant relief. This decision was taken because of COVID-19 pandemic, as educational institutions remain closed for at least six months.

The students were unable to complete their last two semesters due to COVID 19, and it has affected their educational activities as they cannot meet their work according to the academic calendar. Now, M.Phil and Ph.D. scholars are allowed to resume their study after the gradual opening of the institutes. The M.Phil / MS scholars of the academic year 2018-2020 can now take another year to finish their research work, in compliance with the HEC guidelines to be given to them.
According to the reports, by extending the degree program's duration, all public and private universities can encourage their M.Phil / MS scholars to submit their thesis until next year. Candidates are also notified that this decision will apply for the current year only to those students who are expected to complete their final project work by the autumn of 2020. No extension of the M.Phil / MS program, as per the HEC officials' instructions, will be given from the next academic year.

The Commission also ordered all the vice-chancellors of the different universities concerned to implement the higher education decision. They also advised the universities to encourage the students to ensure that the degrees are completed on time as no further extension of the period is subsequently offered to the enrolled applicants.
