HEC restores the powers of chairperson
In a meeting conducted on Wednesday, the governing body of the Higher Education Commission, known as the Commission, unanimously restored the powers of Chairperson HEC.
The judgement overturned an earlier resolution delegating the Chairperson's responsibilities to the Executive Director HEC, for which the Commission Members' assent was secured without a formal meeting and by email. The powers of the Chairperson HEC were restored at the Commission meeting on Wednesday. The meeting's participants unanimously voted in favour of a move to overturn the previous resolution.
Tariq Banuri, Chairman HEC, Dr. Bhawani Shankar Chowdhry, Former Dean and Adviser Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro, President Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology, Shahnaz Wazir Ali, former Federal Minister for Education, Shamsh Kassim Lakha, and CEO and Senior Research Fellow (IDEA) and Associate Professor LUMS, Dr. Faisal Bari were amongst the ones who attended this meeting.
Along with, Dr. Sarosh Hashmat Lodi, Vice-Chancellor of NED University of Engineering and Technology, former Surgeon General, Lt. Gen. (Retd) Asif Mumtaz Sukhera, Consultant (CPEC) HEC, Lt. Gen. (Retd) Muhammad Asghar, Secretary, Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, Naheed Durrani, Joint Secretary Ministry of Science and Technology, Mira Mohyuddin Soomro were also present.
