Govt reverses its decision on Islamic content in curriculum after backlash

The Punjab government has reversed its decision to exclude all Islamic material from the curriculum except Islamic Studies.

The concerned department decided to reverse the decision in response to Governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar's directives. The decision was taken in response to public outcry over the Minority Commission's proposal to exclude Islamic material from general subjects and only include it in Islamiyat.

The Speaker of the Punjab Assembly, Ch. Parvez Elahi, and the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Interreligious Harmony, Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi, brought this issue to the Governor's attention, and the original decision was rescinded. They have shared their appreciation for the notification's retraction.
