Commonwealth Organization International Award in Chemistry for Pakistani PhD Scholar
At the online third Commonwealth Chemistry Posters event, organized by Commonwealth Chemistry, Federation of Chemical Sciences Societies, UK in September 2022, a Pakistani female PhD student from the HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry, University of Karachi (UoK) has been awarded the 2nd prize award.
According to the Spokesman of the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) – University of Karachi, Karim is pursuing her PhD under the supervision of Dr Farzana Shaheen at the HEJ Research Institute.
Three hundred and eighty posters were submitted to the 3rd Commonwealth Chemistry Posters event by organizers in the UK, the spokesman said. Nevertheless, Humira Karim, who designed and synthesized dendrimeric analogs of anticancer peptides, won a poster prize in the Biodiversity and Natural Products category.
£500 is also awarded as part of the prize.
As Director of the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) and COMSTECH Coordinator General, Prof Dr M Iqbal Choudhary congratulated the PhD student. She said this is well-deserved recognition for Pakistan's young talent, and the ICCBS is proud to have such talented young scholars in its pool.
Her accomplishment was also congratulated by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Karachi, Prof Dr Khalid Mehmood Iraqi, as was Prof Atta-ur Rahman, ICCBS Patron-in-chief and former Federal Minister for Science and Technology.
