Bannu's educational institutions are closed after militants attack
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Bannu district, which is experiencing tense security conditions, has issued a notification warning all private and public educational institutions to remain closed.
In spite of a 24-hour search, the hostages in the Anti-Terrorism Department building have not been recovered.
According to the government spokesman, the situation is under police and security control.
In return for the release of the hostages, the kidnappers requested safe passage to Afghanistan. However, a spokesperson for the provincial government, Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, has stated that elements involved in terrorist activity will not be lenient. He also stated that the government will not satisfy their demands.
In Bannu Cantt, the CTD holds suspects involved in extremism in a rented house. Several officers were taken hostage by militants on Sunday after they fired on an officer on duty.
In addition, three personnel were injured when the firing took place, with the number of extremists estimated to be around two dozen.
Pakistani military authorities are monitoring the operation after the incident, according to official sources. There has been no official statement released about the incident yet.
Residents have been advised not to step out of their homes and to keep their doors locked. The roads leading to the cantonment have been barricaded. Several Cantt residents who were away during the incident were unable to return home at night.
