Another School Girl in Iran Killed by Security Forces
Asra Panahi, 16, was beaten by security forces along with several classmates after a raid on Shaheed Girls High School in Ardabil on October 13th, resulting in her death. According to The Guardian newspaper, the schoolgirl was killed by security forces for refusing to sing a pro-government song in her classroom. Many of the girls who were tortured with Asra were taken to hospital and many were arrested.
Iranian state officials have refused to accept responsibility for the incident.
Mahsa Amini, 22, was killed by Iran's moral police in August, sparking protests across the country in recent weeks. Young women and girls are particularly prominent in these protests against the government. During the protests, video footage of many women taking off their hijabs and chanting slogans against Ali Khomeini has gone viral.
School raids, arrests, beatings, and tear gas have been used in the crackdown so far on protesters. A teacher's union has described the crackdown as "brutal and inhumane."
