The Khyber Medical University (KMU) and Dosti Welfare Organization (DWO) have signed an agreement under which $5,000 will be awarded to the province's all-around best medical graduate each year to encourage healthy competition among medical students.

The idea has been dubbed "The Doctor Zakia Minhas Award of Excellence" by both parties. Dr. Zakia Minhas, the first gynaecologist in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, worked at Peshawar's Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH). She died in December of last year.

In an official ceremony conducted at KTH, Vice Chancellor KMU, Prof Dr. Zial ul Haq, and Executive Director DWO, Muhammad Asif Riaz, signed the agreement.

DWO has also chosen to update all of KMU's and affiliated medical colleges' libraries in accordance with worldwide standards, transforming them into more lively and futuristic resource hubs. DWO will also assist KMU with registering its endowment fund in the United States and the United Kingdom, which will allow it to raise funds for scholarships, expansion, and investment.
