5 Government Schools Opened in Afghanistan on Demand

Following strong demand from female students, five government institutions of secondary education for girls have been opened in Afghanistan's eastern part.

According to international news agencies, the Taliban have officially banned secondary school education for girls, but the order has been ignored in parts of Afghanistan far from Kabul and Kandahar.

Since last week, around 300 girls have returned to school at Shashgarh High School in Gardez, despite no change in government policy.

On Thursday morning, a group of girls wearing headscarves and hijabs walked to school. "We have not returned the girls since they came themselves," he said. The schools will be closed immediately if the Ministry of Education orders them to be closed. We have not been asked to send back these girls who came to study so far, he said.
