A guidance program's ultimate goals are a student's educational, personal, social, and career development.  This educational plan is evaluated once a year in order to assess and adjust learning objectives and activities. Self-awareness, emotion management, growing confidence in one's own talents, and decision-making skills are all part of a student's personal growth. Social development is concerned with the improvement of interpersonal and communication skills in a variety of social and professional situations. Through community service learning, a student also needs mentoring in order to become a responsible citizen. Career development assists students in identifying career alternatives that are compatible with their interests, talents, and beliefs. It enables him to concentrate on his or her work, family, and citizenship. Every student may require direct or indirect assistance in adjusting to their new surroundings. A child's growth is a long process that might last a lifetime, but elementary school is the most crucial period for it. The amount of guidance a kid needs varies depending on his or her developmental stage and class. Some pupils may require more assistance. Students should get guidance on hygiene, health care behaviors, and overall personality development beginning from primary school. As a kid progresses from primary to middle school, he or she will want help in dealing with the responsibilities of a more advanced school level. The formation of a child's well-integrated personality is one of the most essential aims of counselling. All students' difficulties should be addressed in this guidance, rather than just those who are having adjustment/disciplinary issues or have failed a class test/exam. The goal of the counselling is to assist each person in making the greatest possible adjustment between his or her personal emotional needs and the expectations of the society in which they live. As a result, the primary goal of guidance is to assist each student in addressing and resolving his or her difficulties as they emerge. Self-guidance is another goal of guidance. Respect and conviction in the dignity and value of each individual kid are required to create this kind of a guiding programme.


Personality Development

The word 'personality' comes from the Latin word 'persona,' which literally means 'mask.' A person's personality is defined as a combination of emotion, cognition, and behavior patterns that are unique to them. It also involves self-awareness, or the ability to understand oneself. Personality encompasses the entirety of a person's actions; hence, personality encompasses both observable conduct and a person's ideas.

Factors Behind Personality Development

A person's personality evolves when he or she interacts with the surroundings. All events that impact a person's cognition, thinking, conduct, and performance are included in personality formation. Personality development is influenced by both heredity and environment. Heredity refers to what a person inherits from his or her parents, such as habits, intelligence, emotions, attitude, and temperament. Climate, culture, society, the family environment, and education all have a role in an individual's personality development.

Personality Development of Children During Elementary School

The process of personality formation lasts for the rest of one's life. Personality development, however, is critical during the primary school years (age 06-12 years). Here's a quick rundown of how children's personalities change as they grow up. The child's exposure is limited to parents and other family members until the age of three. As soon as he or she joins the nursery school, he or she begins to engage with the teachers and other students. At this age, the child's physical growth is visible. A child's verbal abilities are developing. The majority of learning takes place through observation of parents, family members, and instructors. Up to the age of three, the kid is extremely reliant and protective of the person who looks after him or her. At this age, a child needs to be loved and cared for. Otherwise, he or she will experience sentiments of inferiority, neglect, jealousy, grief, and aggravation. The school stage lasts from the age of six to sixteen years. At this age, both physical and mental talents develop to a large extent. A kid is always interested in learning new things. He/she competes and strives to outperform others. At this age, a child's social and emotional development is accelerating at a rapid pace. At this age, he or she develops and refines his or her temperaments. At this age, a kid learns to manage certain emotions while still expressing others.  The child also begins to make friends at this stage. At this point, his or her attitude, goals, and self-awareness begin to emerge. Parents, teachers, and classmates influence a child's activities and conduct. A child might choose a role model to follow in order to steer his or her conduct. A parent, a teacher, or anybody else can serve as a role model. It is critical to train and guide the child in order to help him or her evolve into a healthy and socially desirable character.
