The UN demands the Taliban open girls' schools

As part of its demands on the Taliban government of Afghanistan, the U.N. Security Council called on them to reopen girls' schools and to end their abuse of women.

Details indicate that the United Nations Security Council has called on the Taliban to withdraw policies targeting women and girls in Afghanistan.

'Increasing human rights violations' were expressed by the Security Council on Tuesday.

The Security Council statement also condemned the ban on women working for NGOs, saying it contradicts the Taliban's promises to the Afghan people and international expectations.

António Guterres, the UN Secretary-General, called the recent restrictions on women and girls "unjust" and said they should be removed.

The United Nations had previously warned that such policies would have "dire" consequences, with the High Commissioner for Human Rights saying in a statement that 'these unimaginable restrictions on women and girls are not only a threat to all Afghans.'

Afghans are concerned that it will worsen their suffering as well as pose a threat outside of their country.

These policies are putting Afghan society at risk of instability, he said.
