Teachers and labs are lacking in Karachi's colleges for 4 year BS programs
Colleges seeking to start four-year bachelor's programs have reported a lack of teachers for relevant subjects, laboratories, and computer labs.
Express News reports that the Department of College Education recommended that the University of Karachi affiliates with 28 government colleges in the city. This is for a variety of subjects.
However, the authorities informed me that the required faculty members of the government colleges have a four-year degree from Karachi University. There are no teachers for these subjects at these colleges, and they do not have labs or computer labs.
The BS program affiliation is required.
The Sindh High Court has constituted a committee of six government colleges in Karachi to recommend affiliation between colleges and universities for the BS program.
Sources at the College Education Department told Express News that the committee has met twice so far.
A meeting of the committee was held to inform the committee that in the colleges seeking affiliation with the University of Karachi, there is already a severe shortage of teachers with the required qualifications, and the colleges are barely able to conduct intermediate classes because many subjects lack teachers.
Despite the closure of the two-year graduation program across the country, the associate degree program has been introduced, but enrollment is very limited.
The following subjects were recommended for admission to the 4-year BS degree program: Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, English, Computer Science, Home Economics, and Commerce.
The Department of College Education has told University of Karachi that DJ College, SM Science College, Commerce College, Premier College, PECHS College, Government College, Zamzama College, Adamjee College, National College, Foundation College, Malir Cantt College, and other colleges including Superior College, Rana Liaquat Ali Khan College, Khatoon-e-Pakistan College, Ship Owner College and Bufferzone College should be given affiliation to start BS program in the above subjects.
