Teacher Murders Student over a Spelling Error in Egypt
An Egyptian teacher brutally tortured a young student to death over a spelling mistake.
It has been reported that the worst case of violence against a girl occurred at Taranis al-Arab Primary School in Egypt, where a teacher tortured a girl so badly due to a spelling error that her skull bone broke and she died of a brain hemorrhage.
A three-month suspension and an investigation have been ordered by the commissioner of the Al-Dakhlia region in Egypt after the incident.
An Arabic teacher, named Samir, 50, was reported to have hit Basmala, 9, with a wooden stick three times on the head after she made a spelling mistake while writing on the blackboard in front of everyone.
In an interview with Arab media, the victim's mother said her daughter was happy to report to school that she had completed her homework, but after a while, the school administration brought her home half-dead.
In addition to the girl's head being broken, the doctor told her mother that blood was accumulating in her brain when she took her daughter to the hospital. After spending eight days in the hospital suffering from a brain hemorrhage, Basmala Osama Ali Mohamed died on Sunday. She attended Taranis al-Arab primary school in Dakahlia province.
Her father said his daughter was found bleeding and unconscious outside the front door of her home by another teacher on a motorized tricycle.
After Basmala's father filed a complaint at El-Senbellawein police station in Dakahlia, the teacher (Samir) was detained for four days pending investigation and suspended from teaching for three months.
A suspension was also imposed on the principal of Taranis al-Arab primary school for failing to inform the police about the assault.
