Rawalpindi Gordon College students protest, principal and vice-principal sacked
A protest was staged by students and teachers of Government Gordon College in Rawalpindi against privatization, which led to the resignation of the college's principal, Dr Idris, and vice-principal, Dr Nafees.
Despite the suspension of status officer Zeeshan, two lecturers can continue to work. The notification was issued by Director Colleges Rawalpindi Sher Ahmed Sati.
Protesters stopped traffic and staged dharnas in front of the college's director's office. The students of Government Gordon College have been protesting the privatization of the college for one month and even protested on Murree Road.
Several hours of protest were held along Murree Road from Committee Chowk. Professors also participated in the protest. Vehicles headed to Islamabad were provided with an alternative route by the city's traffic police.
There was no notification from the government regarding the privatization of Gordon College or its transfer to any mission, according to Rawalpindi Colleges Director Sher Ahmed Sati.
A meeting with the student leadership was held three days ago, he said. He wasn't able to attend. According to him, the college handover was not scheduled for Monday as promised.
