Murad Raas issues an order to close schools in Punjab
The Punjab government has ordered that all public and private schools in the province finish their exams by Friday (March 19).
Punjab Education Minister Murad Raas announced on Twitter that all schools would be entirely closed after Friday.
Raas also requested that school schedules be adjusted accordingly. He warned that educational institutions that disobeyed the order would be shut down.
According to Raas, this order is limited to Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, and Sargodha.
On March 10, Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood declared that schools in seven cities of Punjab and Islamabad would be closed for two weeks beginning March 15 due to a rapid increase in coronavirus infections third wave.
At a press conference, the minister had said that the decision was made by the National Command and Operations Centre's recommendations (NCOC).
The provincial education minister announced that from March 15 to March 28, all public and private schools in Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Rawalpindi, Multan, and Sialkot would be shut for spring break.
