Madrassa transformed into a modern school by NED alumni

In Karachi, a NED graduate converted a madrassa into a science and information technology (IT) institute.The institute, which is housed in a madrassa building in the Martin Quarters section of the province capital, provides madrassa, school, and IT instruction under one roof seven days a week.

Syed Najamuddin Seharwardi, the proprietor of the "Off the School" institute, said that he began coaching sessions in a madrassa room when he graduated from NED University in 2011.

"The place gradually turned into a complete educational institute for ladies and boys, where children from nursery to intermediate receive both traditional and modern instruction," stated Syed Najamuddin.

Nursery children are taught from 12 to 3 p.m., while students in grades 6 through matriculation are taught in the following shift.

The institute, according to Najmuddin, is open for 14 hours a day since intermediate students in the science and commerce groups attend coaching lessons from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

"We focus on giving high-quality education at a low cost," Najamuddin added, noting that pupils are not compelled to wear uniforms or spend money on extracurricular activities.

The institute also provides academic courses in IT, programming, web development, and languages such as Persian and Arabic, in addition to traditional schooling.

"Information technology courses provided to university students overseas are being offered to students in grades six and up," he stated.

He went on to say that the majority of his professors are NED or other prestigious university grads.
