LUMS trending on Twitter but why?
LUMS has been trending on Twitter yet again. Since this morning, LUMS students, alumni, and civil society have been tweeting. The alleged salary of the current Vice Chancellor of LUMS, Arshad Ahmad, has sparked outrage on social media. It has been reported that the VC's current monthly salary is a startling 75 lakhs.
LUMS is one of the country's top universities, with many of the country's intellectual and academic crème pursuing higher education there. Many people have questioned why such a hefty salary is necessary, especially in these difficult economic times when students are struggling to keep up with ever-increasing fees. Individuals have questioned why a university's VC gets paid 75 lakhs but a janitor is paid only Rs.18,000 at the same university. They have demanded an explanation for such a hefty compensation, particularly considering the university claims to be "A Not-for-Profit University," as stated on the university's website.
