HEC to defer fees for flood-hit students
Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), announced that students from flood-affected areas, enrolled in public and private universities, will receive fee deferrals for two semesters.
According to him, all public and private universities are working to help flood-hit areas, and livestock are also being supported by veterinary universities in these areas. A plan for compensating universities in flood-affected regions is also being developed.
According to the HEC chairman, education and technology are intertwined, which implies that technology should be promoted in the education sector. During the Covid-19 pandemic, smart classrooms and technology helped continue the educational process uninterrupted.
Due to the revolution in the IT sector, there will be no need for buildings in the future, and instead phones will suffice for acquiring and disseminating education. Future education will be online and lab practices will be conducted through virtual simulations.
In addition, the HEC had launched programs related to artificial intelligence and cyber security at many universities, including Air University, NUST, and UET.
As a result, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed called for the promotion of skills education across the country, saying it was more valuable than a simple educational degree. Further, he noted that skills education was crucial to the country's development.
