For a week, 42,000 Karachi University students were deprived of their education.
The educational process at Karachi University, which had been disrupted for about two years due to Covid 19, has been temporarily halted for the last week.
The general opinion is that the education of more than 42,000 students is being hindered in order to promote only one teacher in Karachi University to the post of Associate Professor after retirement. Teachers on strike, session starting January 15, 2022 stopped just a few days later.
The management of Karachi University set a selection board for teacher promotions in the Departments of Food and Science and Environmental Studies on January 30. Mureed Rahmo, who had recently taken leadership of the department and was a member of the selection board as well as the secretary of universities and boards, filed some further complaints the next day, including hosting the board without the consent of the Sindh government. The board was forced to adjourn, and Karachi University teachers have boycotted the teaching process as a result.
Teachers believe that neither the previous secretary nor the current secretary has ever requested permission from the University of Karachi for the selection board. Can a retired teacher now be lawfully promoted after his services have ended if given or held without the authorization of the selection board? Will it be approved by the selection committee and the syndicate?
A senior lecturer at Karachi University, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that even if the promotion is approved, how can a retired teacher join this post? Joining can only serve the present.

Dr. Abid Azhar, DG, AQ Khan Center for Genetics, is frequently blamed for the late Grade 22 selection board at Karachi University, and it is claimed that he was effective in delaying it.
Furthermore, the Express requested the view of Prof. Shah Ali Al-Qadr, President of Karachi University, on the problem of affecting the education of 42,000 students for the purpose of a single retired instructor, The board of secretaries has challenged him, saying, "This is not a question of a teacher, it is a problem of university autonomy."
A letter has been sent to all universities by the Secretary of Universities and Boards. We'll be given permission to write as well.
