Dr. Athar Ata joined as the new Vice Chancellor of Federal Urdu University
Federal Urdu University's Vice Chancellor Dr. Athar Ata has arrived in Karachi from Canada and joined the university.
According to Express News, the appointment of Dr. Athar Ata as Vice Chancellor was approved in the first week of February by the Chancellor and President of the University, Dr. Arif Alvi and on February 22, an official notification was issued to appoint him as the Vice Chancellor.
However, for three consecutive months, he kept asking the Ministry of Education for time to join while the university's acting vice-chancellor was running the affairs.
The President, using his special powers, had also approved an increase of Rs. 500,000 in the salary of Vice Chancellor Dr. Athar Ata, after which his total salary has gone up to around Rs. 1.2 million.
It should be noted that in the recommendation of the search committee, he was at the second position in the merit list, however, he is the only one among the three shortlisted candidates whose papers have been published in the required number of HEC recognized journals.
He completed his PhD under the supervision of Dr. Iqbal Chaudhry, Head of HAJ Research Institute, University of Karachi.
