College student slain by robbers
As the incidents of street crime and robberies continue unabated in the city, a grade XI student was shot dead by muggers on Monday.
Usman Saleem, 18, a resident of Landhi 36/B was student of Fazaia College. As per reports he was heading to college when he saw muggers snatching cash and valuables from a citizen. The suspects saw Usman too and shot him.
Usman was rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Muhammad Hasnain, a friend of the slain youth, told the media at the hospital that he was getting ready to leave home for college in the morning when he heard gunshots and went outside to see what was happening.
“Just as I opened the door, I saw Usman running down the lane. He fell on the street right in front of my house. When I asked, Usman said that the robbers were looting citizens and opened fire at him as he passed by,” Hasnain said.
Nadeem, uncle of the slain youth, while talking to media persons at the JPMC, said: "I ask what the police and Rangers have been doing for 35 years? Citizens are struggling on a daily basis and what are the institutions doing?
