Charles Darwin's Rare Manuscript is Selling for $8m

An extremely rare manuscript written by Charles Darwin, the founder of the theory of evolution, is expected to sell for $800,000 next month.

Media reports indicate that this rare document summarizes Darwin's famous book 'Origin of Species'. Darwin's book is considered the foundation of evolutionary biology.

Four years after the third edition of Darwin's book was published, Darwin sent this summary to magazine editor Hermann Kindt.

The document reads, "I have summarized all the important facts that have convinced me that the organisms on this earth have passed through a stage of evolution with minor changes due to conservation or natural selection."

The document was initially thought to be from the third edition of the book, but was later identified as a manuscript sent to Hermann Kindt by Sotheby’s auction house, which described it as ‘rare’.

From November 25th to December 9th, the document will be auctioned. As a tribute to 19th century science and culture, Sotheby's named the auction 'Age of Wonder'.
