Punjab Schools Shut Down After Not Meeting PEF Standard

Thousands of Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) Partner Schools are about to close due to their failure to pass the PEF's quality assurance test.

Adnan Faisal, the chairman of PEF's Partner Schools, has however declared that he will organise provincial-wide protests in the event that PEF decides to revoke the registration of more than 2,000 schools.

The Chairman further asserted that PEF intentionally failed more than 2,000 schools because it increased student pass rates from 33 to 40 percent.

The PEF Act of 1991 established PEF as a stand-alone organisation. The foundation's mandate is to promote non-profit, non-commercial education throughout the province.

PEF was reorganised in 2004 as a result of PEF Act-XII in order to encourage private educational institutions to support education in the province through public-private partnerships.
