Pakistani PhD student wins foreign award in Qatar
According to Express News, Daim Asif Raja, a PhD student at HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry, Karachi University, recently received a travel grant from the American Chemical Society for a research conference organized by the American Chemical Society in Doha, Qatar and won the third position in the poster competition.
A spokesman of the International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) Karachi University said in a statement on Monday that student Daim Asif was pursuing PhD at HEJ Research Institute under the supervision of Dr Imran Malik. According to the spokesperson, this promising student of HEJ Research Institute has secured the third position among 250 poster presentations while 800 people from all over the world were participating in this global competition.
He added that Angela K. Wilson, President of the American Chemical Society, presented the prizes to the successful students. At the same time, the 2016 Nobel Prize-winning scientist Professor Fraser Stoddart was also present on occasion. Daim's poster was titled "Polyethyleneimine, Stabilized Silver Nanoparticles as Calorimetric for Promethazine".
Prof. Dr Iqbal Chaudhry, Head of International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences, Karachi University and Coordinator General of COMSTEC, congratulated Daim Asif on his achievement and said that this achievement is in fact, a recognition of the potential of Pakistani youth while the presence of talented young scholars in Karachi University is a source of pride for ICCBS.
Shaykh-ul-Jamia Karachi Prof. Dr Nasira Khatun and Patron of the International Centre and former Federal Minister for Science and Technology Prof. Dr Ata-ur-Rehman also congratulated the talented student on his achievement.
