Under the Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2012 and Rules 2021, the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has issued instructions to ensure that children in government institutions in Islamabad should receive free education from pre-kindergarten till matriculation level.

According to the official statement, the FDE has directed all Area Education Officers (AEOs) and Heads of Institutions to ensure that no student is placed in a financial situation that may jeopardise their academic advancement.

According to Clause 3 of the Right to Free and Obligatory Education Act 2012, "every child has the fundamental right to free and compulsory education in a neighbourhood school, regardless of gender, ethnicity or nationality," the notification stated.

AEOs and Heads of Institutions shall also ensure that no student is forced to pay registration or admission fees at the time of application or admission, according to the announcement.
