Hanif received his MSc in 1970 and his MPhil in 2000. He is also a published novelist, with 25 novels to his credit. He intends to write more books about Multan in the twentieth century.
In this regard, Hanif stated that his passion for learning inspired him to pursue a PhD at this point in his life.
In a similar unusual development from last year, a death-row inmate in Gujranwala became a lawyer while awaiting the outcome of his appeal.
In May of last year, Rai Muhammad Ayaz was released from prison after the Lahore High Court (LHC) overturned his death sentence. Since then, Ayaz has been practising law.
