How to apply to a university in Germany
First thing to check while applying to any university in Germany is its admission criteria. You can also do this by contacting their international office. But mostly, you need an Intermediate or A level certificate and transcripts and in case of Masters, you need a higher education entrance qualification (Hochschulzugangsberechtigung – HZB) or equivalent to be admitted.
Some universities also ask the applicants to sit for a university entrance examination (Feststellungsprufung), after attending a preparatory course (Studienkolleg).
In some cases, however, even if the candidate meets all admission requirements, he would not be able to enroll directly. The most popular degree courses in Germany have specific restrictions called Numerus Clauses (NC).
Admission at German universities is based on the high school grade point average (GPA). The higher your score, the greater the chances of being admitted at your dream university.
The current popular subjects with national NC restrictions:
- Architecture
- Medicine
- Dentistry
- Veterinary Medicine
