University Students Should Receive Monthly Fuel Stipend According to Academics
With the current situation in Pakistan, fuel has become one of the nation’s most expensive commodities; rising on a weekly basis and making the Government actually consider lesser working days to cope with inflation. Academics have advocated for the introduction of a monthly gasoline subsidy for students at the country's higher education institutions to help them function and meet their basic needs, not neglecting their education.
In this regard, Ibrahim Hasan Murad, President of the University of Management and Technology (UMT), stated that over 2 million university students in the country are finding it exceedingly difficult to cope with the rising fuel prices.
The enormous increase in the price of petroleum goods has put strain on many sectors, including education. As a result, the government should announce the supply of a Rs. 1,000 monthly gasoline subsidy to each university student.
Students from all around the country attend universities in major cities, the majority of whom come from low-income families. They are struggling to keep up with their expenses, which may force them to drop out of school. Students will be able to continue their education by receiving a monthly fuel subsidy.
Subsequently, Fiscal Year 2022 revealed that Pakistan's wheat production fell due to water shortages.
Aside from the fuel stipend for students, the UMT President urged that the federal government begin a large-scale transition to electric cars.
He also mentioned that electric vehicles are less expensive to operate and maintain, as well as being environmentally benign. Switching to electric vehicles will also save the country billions of dollars on its oil import expense.
