Sports Pavilion on Karachi University's Premises Raises Questions
By continuing to display negligence and irresponsibility, Karachi University's assets and security are at risk. On the university grounds, there is an illegally constructed 'Sports Pavilion'.
According to the university records, this place belongs to the university, so the court issued a stay order. Even so, an unknown private party has opened a new business in this building, a sports pavilion has been built, and advertising and signboards have been placed on its walls.
The relevant departments of the University of Karachi remained completely silent on this matter. The issue was raised by a teacher of the chemistry department who eventually wrote to the acting vice chancellor of the University of Karachi. In his letter, he cited that the illegal building on the university's land is now also being used for commercial activities in the name of sports.
Due to the building's presence within the university grounds, the teacher insisted that its illegal use cease immediately.
It's even more concerning that despite this letter; both the outgoing administration and current administration have been sleeping. All this seems to be occurring due to the will of the departments concerned. The newly appointed Security Advisor of the university has also stayed silent about the issue.
Many areas of the University of Karachi campus have already been occupied by encroachers due to serious neglect by the relevant departments. There is a government hospital and a restaurant on the occupied land.
A report from the University of Karachi says at least three acres out of seven are occupied by illegal occupants. Billions of rupees are exchanged on this land allocated for education and research, but despite being repeatedly informed of these concerns, the administration refuses to take action.
