Sindh to fully fund higher education for a number of disadvantaged students

In recent news reports, the Sindh government has approved the applications of 2,267 deserving students to fully fund their higher education at public and private universities.

Government and academic officials sit on the board of trustees of the Sindh Educational Endowment Fund Trust, which provides scholarships.

Among the 10,354 applications received this year, 3,385 scholarships were to be offered based on both need and merit.

A total of 2,267 students were selected out of all the applicants.

The scholarship program offers admission to 83 universities across Pakistan to deserving students living in Sindh in 11 academic fields.

The Sindh government contributes Rs.2 billion a year to pay the educational expenses of all selected eligible students under the endowment fund trust. This trust has a capital investment of Rs. 6.8 billion.

According to Sindh's Education Minister, Syed Sardar Ali Shah, Sindh has always made higher education affordable for many students belonging to disadvantaged communities. However, they qualify to attend prestigious universities.

After evaluating their market value in terms of creating employment opportunities for university graduates, more areas of higher education should be selected for scholarships.

For more deserving students to benefit from the trust funds, Mr. Shah invited philanthropists and donors to come forward and generously offer their support.

Upon being admitted to the universities, the selected students should be able to enjoy scholarship money as soon as possible to enable them to begin their higher education.

He asked the universities that scholarships offered by the foundation should be prominently displayed on their websites and admission advertisements. This is for the benefit of prospective students from low-income areas.
