Punjab Education Minister Against ‘Rote-Learning’ System
The Punjab government is adhering to a comprehensive policy to promote education in the province, according to Higher Education Minister Raja Yasir Humayun.
During a meeting of the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) on Thursday in a local hotel, he said various suggestions regarding improving educational boards' performance have been implemented.
To ensure quality education across the country, the Provincial Minister called for the elimination of rote-learning systems.
He explained they are about to start a grading system to curb the race of acquiring numbers and establish the true abilities of children at the international level.
According to Raja Yasir Humayun, Pakistan has a large pool of talented people, but unfortunately our educational system cannot evaluate performance in a more effective manner. From the Matric to the Master's level, students are mainly concerned with obtaining higher marks, and their creative abilities are not assessed.
The Board of Chairmen has decided to enforce grading rather than numbers in all educational boards across Pakistan in order to eradicate this discrimination, according to Mr. Humayun, so that hard-working female and male students can be judged at a global level based on their true abilities.
All boards and universities in Pakistan will maintain a good working relationship under the guidance of the IBCC.
A directive will also be issued that all boards should announce examination results on time. Both male and female students will be able to enroll in universities of their choice.
Despite a delay in the announcement of annual results, the Minister said the admission process should not be affected.
