To encourage academic members to perform more qualitative research in the future, the Government College University (GCU) in Lahore has recommended a huge increase in the research incentive.

According to the university, the maximum research reward should be increased from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 60,000. This reward will be connected to the research's impact factor.

The idea was presented at GCU's Advanced Studies and Research Board (ASRB) 51st meeting, which was chaired by Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof. Dr. Asghar Zaidi.

In addition, ASRB has advocated that university academic members be allowed to take on consulting jobs. They will, however, be forced to pay the institution 20% of the overall consultant cost.

To diversify the university's revenue sources, the ASRB has proposed that GCU's laboratories and testing facilities be opened to the industry, private enterprises and people.

The ASRB's recommendations will be presented to GCU's syndicate during its meeting next month. Once the syndicate approves these measures, they will go into effect.
