FCCI Chief Stresses Importance of Pakistan & Canada Relations
According to Atif Munir Sheikh, president of the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry, relations between Pakistan and Canada should improve cooperation, particularly in the areas of education and renewable energy (FCCI).
Many Pakistanis have opted to move to Canada over the years. The Pakistani population could be a major factor which attracts local students to select Canada for their further education, according to Canadian Commercial Counselor Michael Lazaruk. According to Lazaruk, Pakistan may benefit from Canada's expertise in the field of renewable energy to help it solve its 6-7 thousand megawatt electricity gap by encouraging solar energy as Pakistan has more than 17 hours of daylight each day.
Sheikh invited the commercial counselor to visit Faisalabad whenever it was convenient for him, stating that solar energy is environmentally neutral and may thus play a significant part in mitigating the negative effects of climate change. They examined their commercial relations on a bilateral basis and came to the conclusion that more concrete actions should be taken to increase the volume of their commerce.
Michael congratulated Atif Munir Sheikh and said that Pakistanis had contributed significantly to Canada's socioeconomic development. Nevertheless, he emphasized that more needs to be done to foster bilateral trade between the two nations.
