Aligarh Muslim University Made to Ban Books by Pakistani Authors
According to media reports, the management committee of the historic Aligarh Muslim University in India has decided to ban books written by Pakistani authors from being taught in BA and MA classes.
Books of Pakistani authors Maulana Abul Ali Maududi and Syed Qutb are being taught in the subjects of Islamic studies in the subcontinent’s renowned institute.
Professor Muhammad Ismail, head of the Islamic Studies Department at the university, told the media that Indian social activist Madhav Kushwar had written a letter to Prime Minister Modi demanding a ban on books written by certain Pakistani authors.
The ‘activist’ stated that these books should not be part of the curriculum not only in Aligarh but also in Jamia Millia Islamia and Hamdard University. Aligarh Muslim University is one of the oldest and most prestigious educational institutes in India.
