WTO Chairs Program Selects LSE as First Pakistani Institute
The World Trade Organization (WTO) selected the Lahore School of Economics (LSE) for its WTO Chair program.
Abdul Razzak Dawood, Advisor to the Prime Minister for Commerce and Investment, tweeted about it on Monday. He also commended the LSE administration and Pakistan's WTO Mission on this accomplishment.
"The World Trade Organization has chosen Lahore School of Economics as the first Pakistani institution to participate in the WTO Chairs programme," he stated.
He explained that the project will be used to develop curriculum, conduct research, and inform Management of Change (MoC) policies regarding trade issues.
The WTO Chairs Program started as a capacity-building programme in 2009-10. The initiative "aims to improve knowledge and awareness of the trade system among academics and policymakers in developing countries through curriculum creation, research, and outreach efforts by universities and research institutes,"
The World Trade Organization promotes trade-related academic activities in developing-country universities and research institutions through this programme.
In the first phase of the program, 14 institutions from developing and least-developed countries were selected as WTO Chairs.
Another nine institutes were accepted into the program's second phase in 2014, which finished in 2019, and applications for the third phase, which begins in 2022, were submitted in March of this year.
