The University of Karachi Teachers' Association ended its boycott
As a result of the University of Karachi Teachers' Association's decision to end the boycott after sustained opposition from student organizations and social circles, classes will resume today as usual at the University of Karachi.
After a meeting on Monday, the teachers' association postponed the boycott until March 6th. In the event that the demands and promises cannot be fulfilled by the given deadline, then the protest can be recommenced.
The meeting demanded that the non-permanent director of finance be fired immediately and a permanent and qualified director of finance be appointed for non-payment of university teachers' dues, according to an official of the teachers' association.
In the last two weeks, teachers at the University of Karachi have been boycotting classes while also preparing to file a court case on this matter.
Moreover, it has been discovered that at the Anjuman teachers' press conference held recently, they provided incomplete information to the media. They claimed that Mureed Rahman, the Secretary of Universities and Boards, had only appointed professors and associate professors.
Recruitment of assistant professors and lecturers has not been approved by the Selection Committee.
As reported, officials of the teachers' association had a document showing that the university administration had requested permission to hire stunt professors and lecturers.
However, the Sindh Chief Minister received the document from the Secretary of Universities and Boards.
According to the Chief Minister, these two people are absent from the summary because the university administration desires to appoint them arbitrarily.
Also, when Express News asked the Secretary of the Teachers' Association, Dr. Faizan Naqvi, why the wrong statement was made in front of the media, he said we had received the document in this regard after the press conference. He said that he had no document or information from the President of Anjuman regarding the matter.
The president of Anjuman, Dr. Saleh Rehman, informed the questioner that Secretary of Universities and Boards Mureed Rahman informed him that the university registrar sent the incorrect format. On being given permission, he explained that Murid Rahman does not clarify things, which was the reason why this mess accumulated.
The media did not receive an explanation from Dr. Saleh as to why he presented incomplete information.
