The report on recruitment of Arabic teachers gets rejected by LHC again

The report by the Schools Education Department provincial secretary for the recruiting process of Arabic language teachers in order to establish compulsory teaching of the Holy Quran in Punjab schools was rejected by The Lahore High Court on Thursday.

Ghulam Farid, the secretary of state for education, stood before the bench with a new report on the case. Ahmad Awais, the Punjab Advocate General, was also present in court.

Justice Waheed pointed out that the court had ordered the government to employ new Arabic language instructors rather than train current science and arts teachers to teach the Holy Quran.

The AGP asked the court for an apology and a promise to deliver an acceptable report. If the latest report is still unacceptable, the bench has threatened to file contempt charges against the chief minister and other officials.

The bench had previously ordered the sessions judges of all Punjab districts to investigate if the Holy Quran was being taught as a separate subject as stated by the education department in their respective jurisdictions.

The school education department stated in a report that the district education authority' chief executive officers visited all of the schools (public, private, madrassahs, etc.) in their respective areas and confirmed that the Holy Quran was being taught as a separate subject in every school.

The judge had directed that the D&SJs or their candidates not only assess whether the Holy Quran was being taught as a separate subject, but also double-check that the facts narrated by the education department were accurate in every way.

However, On March 21, the bench will resume its hearing.
