Sindh Education Minister states that repairs are underway in 7,000 flood-affected schools
7,000 of 20,000 flood-affected schools are being repaired immediately, Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Shah announced on Tuesday.
The minister revealed that around 20,000 Sindh schools were damaged during the recent floods as he gave a detailed presentation on the literacy rate in the Sindh Assembly.
The Sindh government is striving to enhance education quality in the province by working day and night, he added. In the province, there are 35,883 primary schools out of 40,253, according to the minister.
Over the past 14 years, 17,227 billion rupees have been allocated to the education sector, yet schools are in very poor conditions with no facilities for students. Two thousand schools don't have water for drinking, and more than 19,000 do not have toilets, he said.
Additionally, 31,000 schools lack electricity while 21,000 schools do not have boundary walls.
