Sindh Education Department orders private schools to remain open amid security situation

Syed Sardar Ali Shah, Sindh's education minister, has vowed to fight the attempts to forcefully close private schools. The education department has issued a circular to this effect.

It is the responsibility of private school administrators to continue to run their institutions as usual, said the minister. Private schools that remain unduly closed will have their registrations revoked by the education department, he said.

Mr. Shah said that all private and public schools in the province must abide by the government's orders in order to remain open.

In the wake of countrywide riots, the Sindh government announced earlier on Tuesday that it would not delay the matriculation examinations scheduled for Wednesday.

In consequence, the secondary school certification examinations were conducted according to schedule. A visit to examination centers was also made by the secretary and controller of examinations of the Board of Secondary Education.
