Punjab will conduct an English proficiency test for primary school teachers

According to media reports, the test would be held in all districts by the Quaid-e-Azam Academy for Educational Development, the Punjab government's premier institution for in-service and pre-service teacher training, and the British Council Pakistan.

Punjab's School Education Department (SED) has chosen to assess all primary school English instructors' English language competency. On June 12 and 19, the test will be held in Lahore, Multan, Sialkot, Faisalabad, and Rawalpindi. SED Punjab would also offer each teacher with a travel allowance of Rs. 1,000.

The British Council Pakistan has also requested that SED Punjab ensure that as many instructors as possible participate in the language competence test. SED Punjab sacked 2,500 elementary school teachers (BS-14) and senior elementary school teachers (BS-15) in March for failing to provide their B.Ed degrees.

In 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2017, these teachers were employed on a contract basis. They were given until December 2020 to finish and submit their B.Ed degrees. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the deadline was pushed back to December 2021.
