Punjab Plans to Implement Phase 2 of the Single National Curriculum

In Punjab, the Cabinet Committee on Legislative Affairs has approved the decision to implement Phase II of the Single National Curriculum (SNC) next academic year.

A meeting was held under the leadership of the Provincial Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Muhammad Basharat Raja, where the decision was made regarding the implementation of SNC.

In attendance were the Ministers for Law, Khurram Shehzad Virk, and Communications and Works, Ali Afzal Shahi.

As of the first phase of the implementation of the uniform syllabus, a uniform curriculum has already been launched in the province for classes 1 to 6. As part of the second phase, Urdu, English, Mathematics, Geography, General Science, and Computer Science subjects will be covered.

In the meeting, Chairman Raja cited a provision of the 18th Amendment and said that the move will ensure equality of education for all students.

Punjab's School Education Department (SED) began reducing the province's syllabus by 20 percent last month.

In due course, SED would make an official announcement after consulting with all relevant Intermediate and Secondary Education Boards (BISEs).

It was noted that if the provincial government had not reduced the fees, the students would have been overburdened.
