Punjab government initiates plans for schools

To boost the school’s performance, the Punjab government has planned to establish school councils in all public and private schools. Each council would have seven members, according to a notification published by the Punjab School Education Department (SED).

The principals of each school will lead their respective councils. One member will be appointed by the District Education Authority (DEA), while the Secretary of Education will nominate the other. Two teachers, one educationist and a parent will fill the remaining four seats.

The school councils will be formed for a two-year trial term and will be expected to meet once a month to examine and address a variety of concerns that kids might face.

The councils will also hear complaints from parents about their children's alleged torture and sexual harassment. They will also be in charge of the budget for both academic and extracurricular activities.

Punjab's SED has instructed public and private schools to take the required steps to ensure that the recent directions are followed. In the event of non-compliance, SED Punjab has threatened to cancel the registration of private schools.
