Punjab Education Sector has been allotted Rs485 billion

For the current fiscal year, the Punjab government has set aside over Rs485 billion for the province's education sector, of which over Rs56.7 billion will be invested under the Annual Development Programme (ADP) 2022-2023.

According to the budget, the current allocation is more than Rs43 billion higher than the previous budget's allotment. The majority of the Rs485 billion education budget will be spent on salaries and other non-development expenses, while the remaining Rs56.7 billion will be spent on development activities such as the establishment of new schools, colleges, and universities, as well as the provision of missing facilities.

The Punjab government has set out over Rs421 billion for school education, with Rs382 billion set aside for non-development and nearly Rs39 billion set aside for the Annual Development Program 2022-2023. Over Rs59 billion have been set aside for Higher Education purposes, with Rs45.5 billion for non-development spending and over Rs13.5 billion for development spending. A total budget of over Rs1.5 billion has been allocated for Special Education.

A massive sum of Rs27.8 billion will be spent on other development projects, including new initiatives by the Punjab School Education Department (SED) to provide education through outsourcing of public schools (PEIMA) worth Rs4.8 billion, education through private participation (Punjab Education Foundation) worth Rs21.5 billion, and Daanish Schools and Centres of Excellence Authority worth Rs1.5 billion.

A new Higher Education initiative is supplying laptops to students, for which Rs1.5 billion has been set up. Punjab Education Endowment Fund (PEEF) has a budget of Rs700 million, Lahore Knowledge Park Company (LKPC) has a budget of Rs200 million, and Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) has a budget of Rs50 million.

A total of Rs150 million has been set aside for the building of a Punjab University campus in Daska. Similarly, out of Rs3 billion set out for literacy and non-formal education in the ADP 2021-2022, Rs1.9 billion would be spent on current projects.
