PMC clarifies whether the MDCAT will be held at the provincial level

On Thursday, the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) reaffirmed that the computer-based centralised Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) will be held across the country as planned.

In response to reports that MDCAT would be held on a provincial level, PMC President Dr. Arshad Taqi stated that only parliament has the authority to amend the Pakistan Medical Commission Act 2020, which allows the PMC to organise a centralised MDCAT.

He further stated that until the PMC Act 2020 is repealed, the commission will proceed with the MDCAT exam set for September this year.

The president of the PMC also recommended students to continue their MDCAT preparations in order to gain admission to public and private medical colleges across the country without having to give importance to the social media rumors.

The commission had already debunked rumours of MDCAT decentralisation in a Twitter post.

"On a nationwide basis, the Pakistan Medical Commission will administer a centralised computer-based MDCAT test." Furthermore, the PMC would like to reject all and any fake/unauthentic news spreading, misinforming students/public about the cancellation of the computerised MDCAT and administering the test on a provincial level," the commission remarked on Twitter.

The MDCAT test date will be revealed soon, the statement added.
