Egyptian EdTech startup Orcas was founded by Hossam Taher, Amira El Gharib, Omar Fayez, and Ahmed Ismail in 2013. The platform helps parents find tutors and hybrid courses for K-12 students. Each learner receives individualized study plans, learning mode evaluations, and practice assignments as part of the hybrid learning experience, ensuring the most suited learning experience possible while enabling instructors to deliver enhanced learning sessions.

To enhance the learning experience, the platform also offers self-paced learning environments. This is done through gamified and free question sets that are matched to different learning methods and ages of students. All users get free access to Orcas Education Department's high-quality academic exercises.

Orcas have secured $2.1 million in a pre-Series A investment headed by CIRA's NFX Ventures and Access Bridge Ventures. Algebra Ventures, Launch Africa Ventures, Cairo Angels Syndicate Fund, and Seedstars International also participated in the round.

"Today's learners have a variety of needs that edtech companies must meet. As a result, we've evolved into a learning platform that provides a full range of teacher-led and self-paced learning options. We will be able to continue to improve our technology product, acquire the best talent, and expand to other locations in MENAP with the funding," stated Hossam Taher, CEO of Orcas.

The startup is based in Saudi Arabia, but it plans to use the funding to expand to Lahore, Pakistan, and ultimately globally. In early 2022, Orcas will begin operations in Lahore, Pakistan, to assist students in finding high-quality instructors and customized learning plans.
