OIC strongly condemns ban on higher education for Afghan women

According to Hussain Ibrahim Taha, Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the ban on women's education is urgently needed to rebuild trust after the OIC made promises to the Taliban.

Despite repeated warnings from OIC's Secretary General and its Special Envoy on Afghan Affairs, Taliban officials still decided to act.

As stated in the OIC statement, Secretary General Hussain Ibrahim Taha believes the Taliban government's reputation will be seriously harmed if women are not allowed access to education in Afghanistan.

The statement claims that this decision is actually intended to prevent Afghan women from accessing basic rights such as education, employment, and social justice.

Although the OIC stands by its policy of engagement with the Taliban government of Afghanistan, it strongly condemns this decision.

To restore confidence in the Taliban's decisions, the OIC calls on them to immediately withdraw this illegal decision to ban women's education.
