More Girls to Opt for Engineering Field in Pakistan

There is an exponential increase in the number of women studying engineering in Karachi. Although women face many difficulties in engineering, their contribution is significant, although there is no information regarding whether they are still employed after graduating.

Statistics from NED University show that 1000 female students have enrolled for the first time in 5 years.

Dr. Sarosh Lodhi, vice Chancellor of NED, told Express News that no educational institution is based on gender. As a result, the probability of women dominating the engineering industry in the future is high.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development emphasizes closing the gender gap and empowering women.

Women have built and designed significant structures and machines even before the term engineer was coined in the 11th century, but fields like engineering have been mostly male-dominated.

However, in contemporary society today, the trend of women pursuing engineering has changed as more continue to pursue the career.

Based on this year's data from NED University, there are more female students studying electronic engineering, textile engineering, telecommunications, and management science. In addition, there are more female students in 10 of the 30 departments.

Approximately a thousand female students study engineering this year, compared to 848 female students last year. In other words, the number of girls enrolled as engineering students has increased from 38% to 43%.
